The idea of creating NFT was brewing for a long time. Drawing parallels between Parajanov's unique life and the NFT phenomenon, we immediately found the key. Parajanov's life and NFT are unique, unrepeatable and at the same time attractive.
Parajanov dedicated his whole life to creation, be it film, collage, direct human relations or any other ways of creation.
Each work created by the legendary director gained its own autonomy and lived its own life, carrying its own history, culture and uniqueness.

This is an idea of the union of art lovers and innovation, new connections, aesthetic perception, and symbiosis of modern and historical.
Repentance. Variation on themes by Pinturicchio and Raphael
Collage Pinturicchio and Rafael is one of the most eye-catching artworks of Parajanov. This piece is aesthetically detailed, a mix of the Portrait of a Boy by Pinturicchio and the fragment of Rafael’s Madonna di San Sisto.
Parajanov’s collages open another window into the great mind and creative vision of Parajanov – they are like stills or actors from his unrealized movies. Parajanov found a way to persevere and to continue to create, no matter what constrictions and adversity he faced.
Variation with the shell on the Theme of Pinturicchio and Rafael, II version
Repentance. Dedicated to Vasili Katanyan. Three-dimensional collage, reproduction clippings, silk, lace, mother of pearl, seashells, buttons, engraved wood details, clockwork, peacock feather, artificial pearls, metal bijou, corals, plastic beads.

Story - Variation With Shell On The Theme Of Pinturicchio And Rafael, II Version
Jun 2022
Through his visual arts, whether that be a movie or a collage, Parajanov experimented the dialogue between stillness, movement and emotions. Not being able to make any movies, he anchored his creativity in collages. Each of his collage was unique combination of his feelings and the random objects he could find in dumpsters or other places at that moment. He often talked about his feelings through the lenses of the collages he created and how the creation of these pieces helped him to survive the tortuous fours years and eleven days in the incarceration. Non of his collages could be repeated, despite the number of variations done for each pieces or copies as the objects used where unique pieces. Isn’t this the exact underlying philosophy of NFTs itself?! That is why Parajanov is considered the first artist who had created physical NFTs. He explains this phenomenon himself better, “Covetousness was born in me. A desire to possess, then to create,” he said. Variation With Shell On The Theme Of Pinturicchio and Rafael, II Version is a unique artwork that has been created during Parajanov’s prison years. For its creation Parajanov combined 158 unique objects he found in various locations together. The artwork embodies the philosophy of NFTs with the uniqueness, non-fungibility and the feeling of desire to possess the artwork it brings to anyone who looks at it.

Parajanov as the 1st NFT artist
Feb 2023
The idea of transforming Parajanov’s art into an NFT was quite an organic decision. The proposition of digitalizing Parajanov’s artwork originated during a brainstorming session for another project. Who else is the perfect impersonation of web 3.0 and decentralized philosophy if not Parajanov himself? The mere existence and artistic performance of Parajanov was a radical act of rebellion against the government and centralized authoritarian regime. He was never afraid to speak up his mind or fear the consequences and backlash of his actions. By all means, Parajanov was ahead of his time. He believed that art should not be censured or centralized. Through resistance, he supported the freedom of speech and creation during the Soviet time, the exact underlying concepts of NFTs. If you ask yourself, how Parajanov’s collages were created? By combining unique, non-identical pieces with each other and generating an artistic masterpiece. Moreover, each of his pieces has stories behind them, the story of suffering, torture, arrest, artistic void and so forth. The premise of NFTs and decentralized artistic creation is continuous. Thus, Parajanov, as such, unequivocally is the first NFT artist of the Soviet Era.
